District News: New York State Regent Patrick Mannion Visit

On Tuesday, October 18, 2024, the Utica City School District had the honor of hosting New York State Board of Regents member Patrick Mannion during his visit to area schools. The Board of Regents governs all of the public educational systems in New York State, including the New York State Education Department and the State University of New York system. Regent Mannion represents our region on the Board of Regents.

During his visit, Regent Mannion visited James H. Donovan Middle School to speak with students about their hydroponics laboratory, view the grow wall, and discuss the importance of a sustainable food supply.

Next, Regent Mannion visited Thomas R. Proctor High School where he learned about the school district’s innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiative, which is directly aligned to New York State’s new “Transformational Graduation Measures Initiative,” and will redefine graduation measures for New York State students. While at Proctor, he also toured the CTE construction site and the school’s media production studio.

Finally, Regent Mannion visited Roscoe Conkling Elementary School and spent time with students in our Kindergarten Spanish Bilingual Classroom.

We would like to thank Regent Mannion for the time that he spent with our students, teachers, and staff learning about all of the wonderful things that the Utica City School District has to offer.
