District News: UCSD Leaders Attend Statewide Special Education Conference

From July 14 to 16, Pamela Smoulcey, Administrator for Special Education Services, and Melissa Curtis, CSE Chairperson, attended the New York Council of Administrators of Special Education (NYCASE) Summer Conference in Albany, NY. The event provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their knowledge of current trends and changes in special education.

A highlight of the conference was the presentation of the “Friend of Special Education” Award, which honors individuals for lifetime achievement in advocating for students with disabilities and their families. This year’s recipient was Dr. Betty Rosa, Commissioner of Education and President of the University of the State of New York. Pamela and Melissa were honored to witness her acceptance of the award and even more excited to meet her in person. Dr. Rosa thanked them for their dedication to the field of special education and graciously posed for a photo.
